Crane Cabin Systems Announces New G3 Seat Actuator Family for mcX™ Premium Seat Control System at AIX 2017
Third-generation actuators deliver better speed and reliability with reduced size, weight
Crane Aerospace & Electronics, a segment of Crane Co. (NYSE:CR), introduced the new G3 series of seat actuators for the mcX™ Premium Seat Modular Control System today at Aircraft Interiors Expo 2017.
The mcX G3 series of actuators are lighter, smaller, and more efficient than the original models, boasting twice the efficiency and speed at two-thirds the weight and nearly half the size. They are also capable of handling loads up to 8,500 pounds of static force, compared to the original models’ limit of 3,600. G3 actuators are also quieter than their predecessors, delivering a 65% reduction in noise at less than 50 dBA. The new designs also provide increased reliability by incorporating a brushless motor and positive locking brake.
“We’re at the forefront of a major change in premium seat controls with the introduction of the G3 actuator family,” said Chris Cook, Vice President Cabin Solutions, for Crane. “The improved specifications and capabilities of these modules open the door to a better passenger experience for travelers and for airlines.”
The mcX powered seat actuation system uses a distributed control architecture, which allows individual modules to operate independently from a central controller. The result is a quick-acting, smooth, “smart” system. The patented modular architecture and primary / secondary CANBUS system allows for rapid system expansion and simple, low-cost peripheral add-ons. mcX modular seat controls operate on carriers around the globe, with adoption rates continuing to rise.
